DESIGN EXERCISE
Two different designs for small urban gardens, exploring various geometric solutions.
A grid design exercise, one perpendicular and one at 45 degrees.
PERPENDICULAR: The pool and Betula Pendula 'Alba' tree act as strong focal points, giving the viewer a long and strong view as soon as he exits the house. The lawn provides a wide area between tall planting and the pool guaranteeing sun in the poolside area. The dining terrace is placed right next to the house for practical reasons, surrounded by mixed planting and enjoying the view of the pool, which reflects thus planting. A more secluded seating area is placed at the end of the garden, viewing the Betula Pendula 'Alba' tree and a fireplace. This area is covered with loose gravel that allows for some scattered planting within.
45 DEGREES: A garden that invites the viewer to walk into and discover the different spaces for enjoying outdoors all year. The Betula Pendula 'Alba' tree acts as a strong focal point, guiding the viewer into the formal lawn and then through the pool into the dining terrace.
